Installing Android Studio

So far, we have downloaded the Java JDK. Now, we will install Android Studio.
As discussed earlier, Android Studio works on Windows, Mac as well as Linux machines.
The steps are slightly different for each OS.
Here, we will review in detail the steps for installation on Windows systems.


Installing Android Studio
Before installation, the Android Studio redistributable file needs to be downloaded.
Be sure to download the latest version from Android Studio download page
The file we have used is android-studio-ide-183.5452501-windows.exe.

After the distributable file is downloaded and saved, launch the Setup.
You should be greeted with a similar setup wizard screen as shown here. Click Next to begin!

After the distributable file is downloaded and saved and the Setup is launched, keep the default components selected for installation. Click Next.

In the Configuration Settings window, select the installation location for Android Studio. You may select another location / drive that has the required space available. Click Next to continue.
We recommend you create a Start menu folder as well.

Now, you wait. The Installation wizard will tell you when the installation is complete. This can take several minutes. Once the installation is completed, click Next.
When the installation is complete, click Finish to proceed and launch Android Studio.

The first time Android Studio runs, it presents a Complete Installation dialog box that offers the option of importing settings from a previous installation.
If you do not have a previous copy installed on your system, then chose “Do not import settings” and click OK.
If you do, however, have a previous copy, then select the previous installation folder location and click OK.

You might also observe the following Finding Available SDK Componentsmessage box.
Not to worry. It is normal. And there is no action required from you in this case.

At this point, Android Studio will present the following Android Studio Setup Wizard dialog box. Click Next.

Next, the wizard will invite you to make a few choices.
You will be required to select the installation type. We recommend you retain default standard settings.

Now, you are given an opportunity to choose a user interface theme.
You can choose from the darker Dracula or the Light settings and click Next.

Finally, all you need to do is verify the settings and click Finish to complete the wizard.
The Welcome to Android Studio dialog box will appear and Android Studio will launch. What you do from here on using Android Studio is what we will take up in the next topic.
