Artificial Intelligence - Talking about Natural Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence - Talking about Natural Intelligence
What makes Humans smart
Our History
Our planet has nurtured many different species.
From gigantic creatures like Dinosaurs to tiny ones like Ants. The Earth has helped each of them survive.
But we all know that many of these species are nowhere to be seen even after surviving for millions of years.
We as Human Beings entered this place quite late, but have evolved the fastest.
No wonder that we conduct tests on other species rather than the other way round.
But how did all this happen?
Knowing a little about Human Brain
Scientists believe that the reason behind our intelligence can be because of:
Larger Brain Case (Skull).
Manual Dexterity (Ability to hold objects).
Strong Vocabulary (Communication through Language).
Other than these, researchers even believe that invention of fire and so cooked food holds an important key to our evolution.
Human Beings are the only species around that don’t consume just raw food to survive.
Maybe we like to say our our dishes more than anyone else.
The idea behind cooking food is to provide large amount of energy to our brain within a short span of time.
Our brain usually consumes a quarter of the energy provided to our body.
It makes sense because the brain consists of roughly 80 billion neurons.
They can be thought of electric charge lines which turn on and off repetitively at any single moment.
In order to make these neurons work, we need to provide them with energy which comes in the form of food.
Philosophers
So the next time you see your kitchen, don’t forget to bow in front of it. ;)
Natural v/s Machine intelligence
Patterns and so on...
We do know that a human brain is complex and magnificent at the same time.
Our way of doing things is slightly different than what a machine's way is.
We look for patterns rather than concrete data.
Let's take an example of Mobile Number like 9850506123
A human being will probably look for recurring pattern at the first go itself and memorize the number as something like :
(98) (5050) (6) (123)
1 2 3 4
Continued...
While making this pattern we may employ the following information :
Some mobile numbers in a particular region start with (98).
Establishing the reoccurrence of "5 then 0, twice".
Three consecutive numbers (123).
Also if someone will ask you about this number, you might recall it with the sound of it rather than the number itself.
You may even recall it with the help of visual elements.
"Oh! wrote that number when I was sitting at a Cafeteria".
A machine, with a memory of its own, will just store the 10 digits. So boring!!!
It even have to be instructed to store this number under a label of "Mobile Number".
For a machine, it is just 10 random digits, unless it is made aware of its significance.
This can be achieved only by teaching it to look for patterns.
Types of Intelligence
Pattern-matching helps us in a long way. It is a basic element of our Intelligence.
You may not know it but we showcase lot of different types of Intelligence in our daily life.
It happens in simple tasks like having a conversation with your friends or playing football.
When we talk, our brain continuously searches for words and their meanings.
That's Linguistic Intelligence.
Similarly, while travelling we showcase Spatial Intelligence by constructing a route inside our head.
There are other types also like Interpersonal Intelligence which happens when we understand what other people are felling.
Comparing machines with us
AI is all about providing our machines with these types of intelligence.
It can be any one or all of these types.
The most complex problem arises when information is partly available.
In such a case, machines will come to a standstill whereas a human will find its way.
Let's say it is evening time and we are craving for some tea and snacks.
But to our dismay, we find that we are running short on sugar.
A probable outcome in human environment will be:
And a similiar case when handled by robots will be:
This is like missing a Gold Medal by a hundredth of a second. Pure Evil!
Human Being use association as a method to understand a topic.
When we hear the word "Apple", our mind will possibly traverse to following ideas:
Fruit
Other fruits
Red colour
A for Apple
Sweet in taste
I like it
Maybe I dislike it
Steve Jobs
We make these associations automatically. Just like Google Search.
All we need is a search term and off we go.
Even a machine will be able to do so but only if it has access to such information.
We are not superior to machines in every aspect.
Our biological limitations are where a machine wins probably.
Even with billion of neurons and other elements inside the brain, our speed and memory is limited.
Our processing gets hampered with our state of health.
Human brain takes some time to perform an activity like locating a particular word in a book.
A machine will be able to do so in a matter of seconds, maybe even lesser.
The biggest advantage is their availability to work round the clock.
The ability to hold object and work on them with precision formed an important part of Human Modernization = True
A robo-advisor is able to prescribe medicines to its patients over a chat window. Which different types of intelligence do you think are on display over here?
Linguistic Intelligence
Logical Intelligence
Typically in a car manufacturing company, what type of intelligence will be displayed most by the robots as well as humans?
Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence.
